Dear Community Member:

In recognition and celebration of Santa Rosa’s diversity, Community Baptist Church, the City of Santa Rosa, Elsie Allen High School and a wide cross-section of organizations and members of our community are launching the Sixth Annual Race Equality Week beginning September 13th. The week will end with a festival on Sunday, September 20, 2009.

In doing this, we join cities throughout the nation that take time each year to honor the many groups which make our country so strong and to attain the goal of racial equality, which is enshrined in our state and federal constitutions. The festival will be the culmination of the week-long celebration, featuring cultural booths and bringing to life, through interactive, hands-on activities, the dance, music, food, art, crafts of cultures around the world.

A group of community leaders, educators, and business professionals has been meeting for several months to develop a calendar of events for this year’s program.

The multi-cultural and ethnic festival will be held at the end of Race Equality Week at Elsie Allen High School, 599 Bellevue Ave, Santa Rosa, on Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. This event is free to the public and to participants. Many diverse organizations have expressed interest in having a booth at which traditional food could be sold, artifacts displayed, and/or information provided regarding their organization’s activities.

We are excited about this year’s event, and your involvement will guarantee the success of the festival. Thank you in advance for your willingness to make Santa Rosa a better place.

Very truly yours,

Reverend James E. Coffee
