A new Diversity Speaker Series at Napa Valley College will feature speakers including a Filipino historian and a former Black Panther, and will cover topics from modern earth-based spirituality to gender issues. Speakers will provide the college and community the opportunity to learn about a variety of cultural and social issues. All presentations are free and open to the public. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is planning a full day Mental Health Symposium at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts with a focus on mental health issues in diverse communities. The workshop is free and includes a multi-cultural lunch. It will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and CEU’s will also be available. Efren Carrillo will open the symposium and a couple of cultural dance groups will provide luncheon entertainment.

Finance Workshop- Financial Aid for College and Credit and Car Buying
Are you graduating from High School and are planning on going to college? Would you like to take a workshop together with your parents so you can get great advice on college financial aid? Come and learn how to fund a college education from experts representing the Santa Rosa Junior College! We also invite you to come and learn the basics of establishing credit and learn what will help you be on the road to having good credit and car buying advice tips if you are interested in purchasing a new or used car. We will offer the Financial Aid for College and Credit and Car Buying Advice workshops bilingually in English and Spanish. Wednesday, September 15th from 6:00-8:00 PM at 655 1st Street, corner of 1st and D Streets. Free to attend, refreshments will be served.

Wells Fargo Center for the Arts is pleased to announce, Fiesta de Independencia, a free family-friendly event celebrating Mexican Independence Day, on Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 3 pm-7 pm celebrating Mexico’s Bi-centennial Anniversary. The event will be a taste of Mexico in Sonoma County, featuring authentic Mexican food, music, local entertainment, games and activities for the whole family as well as a dramatic re-enactment of El Grito. We will also be offering Aztec dance lessons, roaming mariachis, films provided by the Mexican Consulate, and a curated art exhibit featuring Mexican art.
